Ingredients

Main ingredients
  • 1 loaf French bread A fresh, high-quality loaf is key. Look for a crusty, European-style baguette for perfect crunch.
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened Using unsalted butter allows you to control the saltiness of the bread.
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced Fresh garlic enhances the flavor much more than powdered garlic.
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese Use fresh-grated Parmesan for the best taste and texture.
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped Fresh herbs add vibrant flavor; swap with basil or oregano if desired.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt Adjust based on your taste, especially if your butter or Parmesan is salted.
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper Freshly cracked pepper enhances flavors nicely.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil Adds richness and helps to crisp up the crust.

Method

Preparation
  1. Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) for preheating.
  2. Carefully slice the French bread diagonally into 1-inch thick pieces, keeping the base intact.
  3. In a medium bowl, combine softened butter, minced garlic, grated Parmesan cheese, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper, mixing until well combined.
  4. Spread the garlic-Parmesan mixture between each bread slice and brush the top with olive oil.
Baking
  1. Wrap the prepared loaf in aluminum foil and place it on a baking sheet; bake for 15 to 20 minutes.
  2. Unwrap the foil and bake for an additional 5 minutes to crisp the top crust.
  3. Let the bread cool for a couple of minutes before serving warm.

Notes

If you have leftovers, wrap them tightly in foil to maintain freshness. They can be stored at room temperature for a day or two. You can prepare the garlic-Parmesan mixture a day in advance and store it in the fridge.
