Ingredients

Base Ingredients
  • 2 cups whole milk Whole milk creates a creamy base; dairy-free options include almond or oat milk.
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar Adjust sweetness to your liking.
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder Use quality cocoa like Ghirardelli or Valrhona.
Chocolate Ingredients
  • 2 tablespoons milk chocolate, chopped Choose your favorite brand for smooth sweetness.
  • 2 tablespoons dark chocolate, chopped Opt for at least 60% cacao.
Flavoring Ingredients
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract Pure vanilla enhances flavor.
  • 3 ounces bourbon Kentucky bourbon is recommended; spiced rum can be used as an alternative.
Toppings
  • mini marshmallows For topping.
  • chocolate curls For garnish.

Method

Heat the Mixture
  1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine whole milk, granulated sugar, and cocoa powder. Whisk continuously until the mixture is hot and steaming but not boiling, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Stir constantly to prevent scorching. Keep the heat moderate, and immediately turn it down if it starts to boil.
Add the Chocolates
  1. Stir in the chopped milk chocolate and dark chocolate. Whisk until fully melted and smooth, about 1-2 minutes.
  2. Avoid boiling the mixture after adding the chocolate to prevent graininess.
Finish with Flavor
  1. Remove from heat, then stir in the vanilla extract and bourbon (adjust to taste).
Serve
  1. Pour the hot chocolate into heat-safe mugs. Top with mini marshmallows and sprinkle chocolate curls on top.
  2. Serve immediately and enjoy every warm sip!

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. You can reheat gently on the stove or in the microwave. Adjust sweetness or creaminess as desired.
