Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure even baking.
- In a heavy-bottomed cast-iron skillet, heat sesame oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic, ginger, and green onions, sautéing until fragrant, about 2 minutes.
- Add the ground meat and cook until browned, approximately 5-7 minutes. Then, stir in the chopped cabbage and soy sauce, cooking until the cabbage wilts, about 4 minutes more. Season with salt and pepper.
- In a baking dish, place a layer of dumpling wrappers followed by a portion of the meat and cabbage mixture. Repeat this process until all ingredients are used, finishing off with a top layer of dumpling wrappers.
- Pour chicken broth over the top layer, adding cheese if desired.
- Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until the top is golden brown.
- Let the dish cool slightly before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.
Notes
Tip: Use whole grain or vegetable-based dumpling wrappers for added fiber and nutrients. You can also incorporate chopped spinach or kale into the filling for an extra dose of vitamins. For a plant-based option, replace ground meat with lentils or mushrooms.
