Ingredients

For the cocktail
  • 4 ounces bourbon Opt for quality bourbon like Buffalo Trace or Four Roses for a smooth finish.
  • 2 dashes bitters Aromatic bitters work well; orange bitters can be used for a twist.
  • 2 tablespoons simple syrup Homemade or store-bought.
  • 1 teaspoon molasses Preferably unsulfured for a rich flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger Fresh ginger can be used for a more vibrant taste.
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon Using Ceylon cinnamon provides a delicate flavor.
  • ice cubes for shaking Regular ice for shaking and large ice cubes for serving.
  • cinnamon sticks for garnish Adds an aromatic and beautiful finishing touch.

Method

Prepare the Ingredients
  1. In a cocktail shaker, combine bourbon, bitters, simple syrup, molasses, ground ginger, and ground cinnamon. Stir gently first to help the molasses dissolve properly.
Shake
  1. Add a handful of ice cubes to the shaker, cover it, and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds until well-chilled.
Serve
  1. Fill each serving glass with large ice cubes and strain the mixture over the ice.
  2. Garnish with a cinnamon stick and serve immediately.

Notes

For a spicier cocktail, add more ginger. For sweetness, adjust the simple syrup. Shake long enough to ensure proper chilling.
