Preparation
- In a large bowl, mix the warm water and sugar, then add the yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- Add the flour and salt, mixing until a rough dough forms.
- On a floured surface, knead the dough for about 10 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
- Gently knead in the fresh blueberries, being careful not to crush them.
- Place the dough in a covered bowl and let it rise for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Set your oven to 425°F (220°C) for that perfect bake.
- Punch down the dough, divide it into 8 pieces, and shape each piece into a bagel.
Cooking
- In a large pot, bring water to a boil, adding baking soda. Boil each bagel for about 1 minute per side, then drain.
- Place the boiled bagels on a baking sheet. (Optional) Brush with egg wash for an appealing shine.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- Let the bagels cool before serving to retain the delightful texture.
Notes
Serve warm, preferably with a spread of cream cheese or honey. Incorporate ground flaxseeds or chia seeds for added nutrition.
