- In a heavy-bottomed pot over medium heat, combine the chopped plums, ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir until mixed well.
- Next, add in the garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper (if using), along with salt and pepper. Mix thoroughly for even distribution.
- Allow the mixture to come to a slow simmer before reducing the heat to low. Cook for about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking, until the sauce thickens beautifully.
- Once the sauce has thickened, remove it from the heat and let it cool. Blend using an immersion or regular blender until you achieve your desired consistency.
Notes
For a beautiful presentation, serve the BBQ sauce in a small bowl next to grilled meats or as a dipping companion for fried appetizers. This sauce can be frozen or stored in the fridge for up to two weeks.
