Ingredients

Essential Ingredients
  • 2 cups Plums, pitted and chopped Choose ripe, dark-skinned plums for maximum sweetness.
  • 1 cup Tomato Ketchup Opt for high-quality, organic ketchup.
  • 1/2 cup Brown Sugar Consider substituting with monk fruit sweetener for a healthier option.
  • 1/4 cup Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce Ensure it's vegan-friendly if needed.
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Onion Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Smoked Paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper Optional for added spice.
  • Salt and Pepper To taste.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a heavy-bottomed pot over medium heat, combine the chopped plums, ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir until mixed well.
  2. Next, add in the garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper (if using), along with salt and pepper. Mix thoroughly for even distribution.
  3. Allow the mixture to come to a slow simmer before reducing the heat to low. Cook for about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking, until the sauce thickens beautifully.
  4. Once the sauce has thickened, remove it from the heat and let it cool. Blend using an immersion or regular blender until you achieve your desired consistency.

Notes

For a beautiful presentation, serve the BBQ sauce in a small bowl next to grilled meats or as a dipping companion for fried appetizers. This sauce can be frozen or stored in the fridge for up to two weeks.
