Ingredients

For the Bruschetta
  • 4 slices slices of Italian bread Choose a crusty bread like ciabatta or baguette for the best texture.
  • 2 medium ripe tomatoes Heirloom tomatoes will add sweetness and color, but any fresh, juicy variety works.
  • 1 clove garlic Use fresh garlic for the best flavor; avoid pre-minced options.
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil A high-quality olive oil enhances the richness.
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar To add complexity and a touch of sweetness.
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt Enhances the natural flavors—don’t skip this step!
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper Freshly ground adds the best flavor profile.
  • 10 leaves fresh basil Opt for sweet basil; tear, don’t chop, to release its natural oils.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and arrange the bread slices on a baking sheet.
  2. Toast the bread: Place it in the oven for 5 to 7 minutes until it’s golden and crisp.
  3. While the bread is toasting, dice the tomatoes and finely chop the basil leaves. Transfer them to a mixing bowl.
  4. Add the minced garlic to the bowl, along with the olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Combine gently.
  5. Toss in the diced tomatoes and chopped basil, then sprinkle with salt and pepper. Stir gently.
  6. Once the bread is toasted, remove it from the oven and rub one side of each slice with the remaining garlic clove.
  7. Spoon the tomato mixture evenly over the garlic-rubbed side of each bread slice.
  8. Serve immediately and enjoy while the bread is still crunchy and the toppings are fresh!

Notes

Ensure your tomatoes are at room temperature for the best flavor. If using butter for serving, let it soften at room temperature before spreading. Leftover bruschetta topping can be refrigerated for up to 2 days. Toasted bread is best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 1 day.
