Ingredients

Base Ingredients
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, room temperature High-quality cream cheese is recommended for a smooth texture.
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature Ensure it's softened, not melted.
  • 1 tablespoon molasses Use unsulfured molasses for the best flavor.
  • 4 cups confectioners sugar Sifted works best for a smooth finish.

Method

Mixing
  1. In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, combine the cream cheese, butter, and molasses. Beat on low speed for about 1 minute until the mixture is smooth and fully combined.
  2. Gradually add the confectioners sugar, about 1 cup at a time, mixing on low speed until incorporated. This should take a couple of minutes.
  3. Once all the sugar is added, increase the speed to medium and continue beating for about 2-3 minutes until creamy and spreadable.

Notes

Store the frosting in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week. For the best texture, allow it to sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes before using.
