Preparation
- In a saucepan over low heat, combine the plums, ½ cup of brown sugar, cinnamon, and star anise. Cook for about 5-7 minutes until the plums soften, then remove the star anise and set aside.
Crumble Mixture
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking pan with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, mix the oats, flour, and 1 cup of brown sugar until well combined.
- Add the cubes of butter and mix until coarse crumbs form.
Assembly and Baking
- Press half of the crumble mixture into the bottom of your lined baking pan.
- Top it evenly with the spiced plums, then sprinkle the remaining crumble mixture on top.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and smells divine.
Cooling and Serving
- Allow to cool for 20 minutes, then cut into squares.
- Serve warm, optionally topped with whipped cream or ice cream.
Notes
For the best depth of flavor, use ripe, juicy plums that give slightly when pressed. Consider adding chia seeds or crushed walnuts for added nutrition.
