Main Ingredients
  • 1 dried fruit dried gardenia fruit (optional) Adds unique aroma and flavor; can be skipped.
  • 5 cups water Use filtered water for best flavor.
  • 1/3 cup dried chrysanthemum flowers Opt for highest quality, available at Asian grocery stores.
  • 1 cup sugar Can substitute with honey or agave syrup.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt Enhances flavors.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Cut the dried gardenia fruit (if using) and release its fragrant oils.
  2. On medium-high heat, set a pot of water and heat until just below boiling.
  3. Stir in the dried gardenia fruit (if using), dried chrysanthemum flowers, and sugar.
  4. Allow the mixture to come to a gentle boil.
  5. Reduce the heat and let the tea simmer for about 5 minutes until the water turns golden.
  6. Turn off the heat and let the tea cool for about 10 minutes.
  7. Strain the tea into a large pitcher, removing the dried flowers and gardenia.
  8. Pour the tea over glasses filled with ice and enjoy it chilled.

Notes

Keep in the fridge for up to 5 days. Best enjoyed fresh. Garnish with fresh chrysanthemum petals or mint leaves for visual appeal.
